FAQs

What is Aerial Yoga and can I do it?

Aerial Yoga (also known as Anti-Gravity Yoga or Fly Yoga) involves practising yoga poses while suspended in a hammock. Some poses are done on the mat, while others are in the air. While it draws inspiration from yoga poses, the aerial approach offers a unique experience that even beginners can enjoy. If you are new to our studio, we recommend you start with our Aerial Basic classes.

What are the benefits of Aerial Yoga?

There are a lot of benefits that can come from a regular Studio Arise aerial yoga practice -

• Relieves spinal compression by allowing the back to stretch freely.

• Removes impact from your workout, easing pressure on your spine and joints.

• Strengthens the body, improves flexibility, and challenges the mind.

• Beginner-friendly and suitable for all fitness levels.

Is Aerial Yoga safe?

Aerial yoga is suitable for all ages, fitness levels and body types, with no need for prior flexibility, gymnastics or dance experience. Our teachers focus on alignment and safe transitions and tailor classes for each individual, ensuring a comfortable practice for everyone.

While the aerial aspect can seem overwhelming, any initial fears are quickly overcome by its many benefits. Each hammock, made from high-density nylon, supports up to 450 kg and is securely fastened with mountain-climbing-rated hardware.

If you are pregnant, please consult your doctor for medical advice and opt for mat or prenatal classes if suitable, and defer aerial for a safer time. If you have had recent eye surgery, a head injury, glaucoma, an inner ear condition, very high or low blood pressure, or suffer from serious vertigo, we recommend that you also consult your doctor before trying aerial yoga.

I am new to yoga; can I join Studio Arise?

Absolutely! We offer yoga for beginners, and all are welcome in our aerial yoga, mat yoga, and reformer classes. We recommend starting in our Basic classes to familiarise yourself with the practices.

What do I bring?

Just yourself! If you'd like to bring your own yoga mat, go ahead. Mats are available for hire.

What do I wear for class?

• Aerial Yoga: For safety and hygiene reasons, you must wear a top with sleeves (to cover underarms) and avoid zippers, rings/necklaces/jewellery, long nails, heavy face makeup, to prevent damage to the hammocks.

• Reformer Pilates: Grip socks are required (BYO).

What time do I need to arrive?

Please arrive 5–10 minutes early to sign in with the instructor and adjust your hammock for class. Late arrivals (more than 5 minutes after class starts) are not permitted.

Do you have shower facilities?

Currently, no showers are available. However, there is a small changing area in the studio and public toilets located nearby in the building.

Are children or teens welcome?

Group classes are exclusively for adults (18+). Children are not permitted in the teaching space or to use studio equipment. Keep an eye on our social media for special workshops for kids and teens during school breaks or reach out for private events like kids birthday parties.
